| Heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Trace around the bottom of your 8" round cake pan on wax paper and cut out two circles. Place these in the bottom of the pans and then butter the pans on the sides and bottoms(over the waxed paper). |

| Prepare the cake mix as directed on the package, using milk instead of the water in the ingredients. |

| Bake as directed on the package or until a cake tester or toothpick comes out clean., Cool 10 minutes in pan; run a knife around the edge of the pan; turn the pan over onto a cake rack and gently pull off the wax paper. Allow to cool completely, before building the Black Forest Cake. |

Building the Black Forest Cake

| Cut each layer in half, and gently slide off the top layer onto a piece of wax paper, so that you now have 4 circles of cake. |

| Whip the cream until soft peaks form, add the sugar, Kirsch and vanilla and beat for a few more minutes until the cream is slightly stiff. |

| Open up the tin of cherry pie filler |

Place a layer of cake on a cake plate; smooth on whipped cream to cover the layer and then top with 1/3 of the tin of cherry pie filler. Repeat this two more times and then place the top layer on the cake. Smooth the rest of your whipped cream on the top in a decorative manner. Sprinkle shaved chocolate on top. |
