| Preheat oven to 325 °F . Grease an 8" x 8" square Pyrex dish with butter. |

Cream together butter, salt and sugar. Beat in the egg and mix well. Add dry ingredients (which have been mixed together) and mix well. Add chopped apple. Mixture is quite thick and very apple- ly. Spread evenly in pan. |

Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until cake tester comes out clean. |

While still warm top with a vanilla glaze (see below) |

Vanilla Glaze

Melt butter in saucepan. Stir in the icing sugar and vanilla. Then add the water, 1 tbsp at a time, until glaze is of proper consistency. |
