| Preheat the oven to 350 deg F. |

| Mix the berries, lemon rind, cinnamon and flour together in a bowl. Put this mixture in a greased 8" square Pyrex glass baking dish. Drizzle the maple syrup over the berry mixture. |

Mix the softened butter, flour and brown sugar together until crumbly. Gently add the chopped almonds (if you are using them). Spread this mixture evenly over the berry mixture. |

Bake about 40 minutes, until the topping is golden and the berry mixture is bubbly. Serve warm or cold with or without ice cream. |
