Applesauce is used in the making of the sauce for Cooking Bag Pork Chops. An easy recipe for Applesauce follows this recipe.
Cooking Bags take all of the mess out of the baking. Throw some potatoes in the oven at the same time and their will be no pots at all
Another delightful recipe using cooking bags, Cooking Bag Pork Chops bakes the chops in an apple mushroom sauce.
Onion Soup Mix adds a zing to the sauce
Dry onion soup mix also goes into the making of this sauce for the chops.
Cooking Bag Pork Chops
Ingredients
- 4 pork loin chops
- 2/3 cups applesauce
- 1/2 cup white wine
- 1/2 cup dairy sour cream
- 8 - 10 cremini or white mushrooms (sliced into 1/4 inch slices)
- 1 Pkg dry onion soup mix
- 1 Medium sized cooking bag
Directions
|
Season the pork chops with your favourite pork seasoning. I like the Keg's chicken and rib seasoning. |
|
Prepare the applesauce (recipe follows) or you can use purchased applesauce. |
|
Mix the applesauce, white wine, sour cream and onion soup mix together. |
|
Pour into the cooking bag. Add the pork chops and mushrooms. Gently mix them together. Tie the end of the bag with the twister provided. Make 5 or 6 small slashes in the top of the bag to allow the steam to be released. Place in a baking dish large enough to hold the entire filled cooking bag. |
|
Bake at 350 deg F for 45 minutes. Carefully open the top of the bag by cutting a large slash. Remove the chops to a platter. |
|
Scoop the mushroom sauce to a gravy boat to pass. It is very nice served with rice or roasted or mashed potatoes. |
Applesauce
Ingredients
- 4 medium to small apples (I prefer MacIntosh, but you can choose your favourite cooking apple)
- 1 - 1 1/2 Tbsp brown sugar
- JE* (just enough) cinnamon to taste
Directions
|
Peel and core the apples and then cut into bite sized pieces. Sprinkle with cinnamon (to taste....I like a fair amount of cinnamon). Add the brown sugar and stir. |
|
Put on a burner that is on simmer, cover and cook about 20 - 30 minutes (depending on the apples), stirring every 5 minutes or so, until the apples are soft and can be broken down with a fork. |
